Reconnecting Communities and Neighborhoods Program

Capital Construction Grant Application for the Stitch

The City of Atlanta and its partners are pleased to submit an application to the US Department of Transportation Reconnecting Communities & Neighborhoods Grant Program for funding to implement phase 1 of the Stitch. Phase 1 of the Stitch aims to build a 4-acre cap park over Interstates 75 and 85, transportation improvements, and infrastructure upgrades to reconnect north Downtown Atlanta neighborhoods. The Stitch will address the lasting negative impacts from the construction of the Interstate over a half-century ago.

This website was created to host the grant application and supporting appendices. These can be accessed via the link below:

Previous plans and documentation supporting this application are also provided for reference below:

Project

Project

The Stitch will unite the city with an elevated urban oasis of parks, paths, development sites and programmable spaces.

Impact

Impact

As a catalyst for new development, The Stitch can provide billions of dollars in value creation and generate over $50 million in new revenue.

Community

Community

Reconnecting neighborhoods in the heart of the city can spur new opportunities for affordable housing, sustainability, development, safety, and unity.

“When there’s a vision coming from the community about how to reconnect and create new usable land and greenspace, that’s something we want to accelerate. The Stitch is a great way to make use of old right of way. And it takes into account all the things that matter for the future.”

Pete Buttigieg,
United States Transportation Secretary
